Golden Grosbeak - Pheucticus chrysogaster

Cardinal à tête jaune

Golden Grosbeak
The Southern Yellow Grosbeak, also known as the Golden-bellied Grosbeak, is native to South America. The one in the painting is from Ecuador, but they are also found in Peru, a small part of Colombia , and in parts of Venezuela west to the Santa Marta Mountains in northern Colombia. It is closely related to the Yellow Grosbeak (P. chrysopeplus) of Mexico, which sometimes occur in Arizona, and at times the two have been considered to be conspecific. They are also less closely related to the Rose-breasted and the Black-headed Grosbeak, both of which commonly breed in North America.
